About me

Jorge Tobajas

I am a scientist interested in wildlife management and conservation, working at the interface between ecology, management, and human–wildlife coexistence. My research focuses on understanding and mitigating the impacts of human activities on wildlife, with particular emphasis on conflict-prone systems and threatened species, through the development of strategies and methodologies for the sustainable management of wildlife populations.

My main research line develops and tests applied, non-lethal tools to reduce predation on endangered and game species, as well as to mitigate human–wildlife conflicts, combining behavioral ecology with conservation practice. I am especially interested in behavior-based approaches within coexistence conservation, such as conditioned food aversion and chemical camouflage, and their application across diverse ecological contexts and taxa.

Additionally, my research explores the ecology and conservation of wildlife in human-dominated landscapes, including scavenger species, the impacts of renewable energy and recreational activities, and the integration of scientific evidence into management and policy. Through interdisciplinary research and close collaboration with managers and institutions, I aim to translate ecological knowledge into effective management and conservation solutions.
